401 Ancestry's Dorset, Church of England, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 records the marriage of Susanna Vacher of Charlton and William Yard of Anderson on May 30 1751 in Spetisbury. Charlton Marshall is 10 km east of Milton Abbas.

This is the only Susanna Vacher marriage in Ancestry's Dorset, Church of England, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 (based on its indexed entries) that occurs in a year consistent with the baptism of Susannah, daughter of Richard and Phebe Vacher of Milton Abbas, in 1722.

Ancestry's Dorset, Church of England, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 records the burial of Susanna Yard Widow on July 7 1782 in Milton Abbas, and the burial of William Yard on December 27 1762 in Hilton. No other information is recorded for either burial.

Neither Ancestry's Dorset, Church of England, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 nor Ancestry's England, Select Dorset Parish Registers, 1538-1910 record any baptisms for children of William and Susanna Yard (based on their indexed entries).

The burials of Susanna Yard (Widow) in 1782 in Milton Abbas and William Yard in 1762 in nearby Hilton suggest Susanna, wife of William Yard, may be the daughter of Richard and Phebe Vacher of Milton Abbas. Susanna Yard is the only Yard buried in Milton Abbas according to Ancestry's Dorset, Church of England, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 (based on their indexed entries).
VACHER, Susannah (I3947)

402 Ancestry's Dorset, Church of England, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 records two baptisms of a Philip Wolridge between 1650 and 1670 when it is likely Philip Wolridge, husband of Lucie Barens, was born:

1. Phillipp, son of Phillipp and Celyna Wolridge, born September 14 1657 in Milton Abbas (and age 29 or older at the time of Philip Wolridge's marriage to Lucie Barens)
2. Phillip, son of Thomas and Margaret Wolridge, baptized November 15 1670 in Milton Abbas (and age 16 or older at the time of Philip Wolridge's marriage to Lucie Barens)

It is more likely Philip Wolridge, husband of Lucie Barens, was 29 years old when he married than 16. But, only the baptism date for Phillip, son of Thomas and Margaret Wolridge, is known. So, he may have been older than 16 in 1687 when Philip Wolridge and Lucie Barens married.

Ancestry's Dorset, England, Wills and Probates, 1565-1858 contains the Will of James Woollridge (sic) of Milton Abbas dated February 5 1727 which records:

1. Philip as James' brother (by referring to "my Brother Phylip's (sic) three children")
2. Richard Woollridge as James' cousin (by referring to "my Coson (sic) Richard Woollridge's widow")
3. Philip Woollridge as James' cousin (by referring to "my Coson (sic) Phylip (sic) Woollridge and his wife")
4. Henery (sic) Woollridge as James' cousin (by referring to "my Coson (sic) Henery Woollridge")
5. Ann Woollridge as James' cousin (by referring to "my Coson (sic) Henery Woollridge and his two sisters Ann and Susanah")
6. Susanah Woollridge as James' cousin (by referring to "my Coson (sic) Henery Woollridge and his two sisters Ann and Susanah")

James Woollridge's Will together with the Milton Abbas Parish records identify which Philip Wolridge (i.e. James' brother or James' cousin) married Lucie Barens; i.e. the son of Phillipp and Celyna Wolridge, or the son of Thomas and Margaret Wolridge.

The only James Wolridge's baptized in Milton Abbas are sons of Thomas and Margaret Wolridge baptized on October 10 1657 and on July 25 1659. There is a burial for James, son of Thomas and Margaret Wolridge, on February 3 1658 in Milton Abbas. So, James Wolridge is a unique name in Milton Abbas in this time period.

So, Philip baptized in 1670 is James' brother as both are sons of Thomas and Margaret Wolridge. Thus, Philip baptized in 1657, son of Phillipp and Celyna Wolridge, is James' cousin. In addition to Philip, Phillipp and Celyna Wolridge baptized the following children in Milton Abbas: Richard, Henry, Ann, and Susan. These all correspond to cousins of James Woollridge as recorded in his Will confirming that James Woollridge's cousin Philip is the son of Phillipp and Celyna Wolridge. There is no other Wolridge family in Milton Abbas with this set of children.

Ancestry's Dorset, Church of England, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 records the burial of Philip Woolridge (sic) on March 6 1735 in Milton Abbas. No other information is recorded.

This is the only known burial of a Philip Wolridge in Milton Abbas between 1685 and 1750. So, it is reasonable to conclude this is Philip Wolridge, husband of Lucie Barens.
WOLRIDGE, Philip (I3993)

403 Ancestry's Dorset, Church of England, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 records two burials for a Mary Lillington in Milton Abbas who could be the wife of John Lillington:

1. Mary Lillington Widow buried February 12 1784
2. Mary Lillington Widow buried December 28 1797

No other information is recorded. Either (or neither) may be the wife of John Lillington. Likely, one is Mary Huett, widow of John Lillington, and the other is Mary Churchouse, widow of Thomas Lillington.
HUETT, Mary (I3960)

404 Ancestry's Dorset, Church of England, Deaths and Burials, 1813-2010 Collections records five burials for a Sarah Rogers whose age at death implies a year of birth about 1743 to 1763. Of these, 2 can be eliminated as candidates from comments on their burial record.

The following are candidates:

1. Sarah Rogers age 79 buried October 3 1829 in Lytchett Minster (with an implied year of birth about 1750)
2. Sarah Rogers age 89 buried July 18 1845 in Winterborne Stickland (with an implied year of birth about 1756)
3. Sarah Rogers age 58 buried January 7 1821 in Stalbridge (with an implied year of birth about 1762)

The following can be eliminated as candidates from comments on their burial record:

1. Sarah Rogers age 70 buried April 22 1813 in Blandford Forum (with a comment stating Sarah is the "Widow of William Rogers")
2. Sarah Rogers age 56 buried May 12 1818 in Cerne Abbas (with a comment stating "A vagrant belonging to the Parish of Islington St. Mary's in the County of Middlesex)

The Sarah Rogers buried July 18 1845 in Winterborne Stickland will be in the 1841 Census.

There is only one Sarah Rogers born circa 1750 in the 1841 Census of Dorset. The 1841 Census of Lyme Regis Dorset records Sarah Rogers age 90 Ind[ependent] born in Dorset, Susan Clark age 57 Ind[ependent] born in Dorset, and Harriett Clark age 12 born in Dorset. Susan Rogers married William Clarke on August 3 1809 in Lyme Regis, confirming Susan Clark's maiden surname is Rogers. Susana, daughter of Robert and Sarah Rogers, was baptized July 6 1783 in Milton Abbas, indicating Susan Clark is the daughter of Sarah Rogers and leading to the conclusion Sarah Rogers in the 1841 Census is Sarah Huett, wife of Robert Rogers.

Thus, it seems reasonable to conclude Sarah Rogers age 89 buried July 18 1845 in Winterborne Stickland is Sarah Huett, wife of Robert Rogers. Winterborne Stickland is about 31 miles east of Lyme Regis "as the crow flies".

Ancestry's England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index, 1837-1915 records the death of Sarah Rogers in July-September 1845 in Blandford (Vol. 8 Page 17). Blandford includes Winterborne Stickland, and it is reasonable to assume Sarah (Huett) Rogers died in or near Winterborne Stickland.
HUETT, Sarah (I3956)

405 Ancestry's Dorset, England, Church of England Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 records the following burials for a Richard Wolridge in Milton Abbas between 1655 and 1727:

1. Richard Wolridge buried April 6 1670
2. Richard Wolridge buried August 10 1712
3. Richard Wolridge buried November 8 1713

No other information is provided for any of these burials.

Ancestry's Dorset, England, Wills and Probates, 1565-1858 records the Will of James Woollridge (sic) of Milton Abbas dated February 5 1727 which identifies a Richard Woollridge as James' cousin by referring to "my Coson (sic) Richard Woollridge's widow". This Will also makes bequests to James' cousins Philip, Henry, Ann, and Susannah. These 5 beneficiaries have the same names as 5 of the 6 children of Phillipp Wolridge and Celyna Easter (only omitting Jane).

The Will of James Woollridge (sic) indicates his cousin Richard Wolridge died prior to February 5 1727.

Ancestry's Dorset, England, Wills and Probates, 1565-1858 contains the Will of Richard Woolridg (sic) of Milton Abbas dated August 6 1712 which makes a bequest to "Rich: Woolridg his wife and all his children", although it does not state Richard is his cousin. This Will also makes bequests to Richard's cousins Philip, Henry, Ann, and Susannah. These 5 beneficiaries have the same names as 5 of the 6 children of Phillipp Wolridge and Celyna Easter (only omitting Jane). It is reasonable to believe "Rich: Woolridg" is also a cousin of the testator Richard Wolridge, and so the son of Phillipp Wolridge and Celyna Easter.

Thus, Richard Wolridge, son of Philip Wolridge and Celyna Easter, died between August 6 1712 and February 5 1727.

Richard Wolridge buried August 10 1712 is the testator of the Will of Richard Woolridg (sic) dated August 6 1712. Ancestry's Dorset, England, Wills and Probates, 1565-1858 contains an Inventory for Richard Wolridge dated October 9 1712. The presence of this inventory indicates Richard Wolridge testator of the Will died before October 9 1712.

So, Richard Wolridge, son of Philip Wolridge and Celyna Easter, is not Richard Wolridge buried August 10 1712 in Milton Abbas.

So, it is reasonable to conclude Richard Wolridge, son of Philip Wolridge and Celyna Easter, is the Richard Wolridge buried on November 8 1713 in Milton Abbas.
WOLRIDGE, Richard (I3998)

406 Ancestry's Dorset, England, Wills and Probates, 1565-1858 contains the Will of James Woollridge (sic) of Milton Abbas dated February 5 1727 which records Philip as James' brother by referring to "my Brother Phylip's (sic) three children". Making his bequest directly to the three children of his brother Philip rather than to Philip himself may imply Philip died prior to James Woollridge's Will.

Ancestry's Dorset, England, Wills and Probates, 1565-1858 contains the Will of Richard Woollridg (sic) of Milton Abbas dated August 6 1712 which makes bequests to Mary Woolridge, Robert Woolridg, and Dhorrity (sic) Woolridg. Dhorrity (sic) Woolridg is identified as the daughter of Phillip Woolridg. Mary and Robert may also be children of Phillip Woolridg. However, the page is torn and their father's name is only partially visible. Making his bequest directly to these three children of his brother Philip rather than to Philip himself may imply Philip died prior to Richard Woollridg's Will.

Ancestry's Dorset, Church of England, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 records the burial of Dorothy Woolridge on November 5 1729 in Milton Abbas. No other information is recorded.

Ancestry's England, Select Births and Christenings, 1538-1975 records the following baptisms at St. Thomas, Salisbury, Wiltshire:

1. Robert, son of Philip and Grace Woolridge, baptized January 25 1702/3
2. Dorothea, daughter of Philip and Grace Woolridge, baptized November 9 1704

Ancestry's England, Select Marriages, 1538-1973 records the marriage of Phillip Woolrige and Dorothy Brachar in 1699 at St. Edmunds, Salisbury, Wiltshire.

Ancestry's Wiltshire, England, Marriages, 1538-1837 records the marriage of Phillip Woolridge (of the Close) and Dorothy Bracher (of the Close) on October 7 1699 at St. Edmunds, Salisbury, Wiltshire. Philip Woolridge is recorded as a Servant, and the marriage is by Licence.

Salisbury, Wiltshire is 45 km northeast of Milton Abbas.
WOLRIDGE, Philip (I4014)

407 Ancestry's Dorset, England, Wills and Probates, 1565-1858 contains the Will of James Woollridge (sic) of Milton Abbas dated February 5 1727 which records:

According to Ancestry's Dorset, Church of England, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812, the only James Wolridge's baptized in Milton Abbas are sons of Thomas and Margaret Wolridge baptized on October 10 1657 and on July 25 1659. There is also a burial for James, son of Thomas and Margaret Wolridge, on February 3 1658 in Milton Abbas. So, James Wolridge is a unique name in Milton Abbas in this time period.

Phillipp and Celyna Wolridge baptized the following children in Milton Abbas between 1655 and 1667: Richard, Philip, Ann, Jane, Henry, and Susan. All except Jane correspond to James Woollridge's cousins as recorded in his Will. The only Wolridge family in Milton Abbas with this set of children is the family of Phillipp and Celyna Wolridge.

As James, son of Thomas and Margaret Wolridge, and Philip, son of Philip and Celyna Wolridge, are cousins; then fathers Thomas Wolridge and Philip Wolridge are brothers.

Ancestry's Dorset, Church of England, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 records the burial of Thomas Wolridge on November 8 1694 in Milton Abbas. No other information is recorded. This may be the burial of Thomas Wolridge, husband of Margaret Devall.
WOLRIDGE, Thomas (I4006)

408 Ancestry's Dorset, England, Wills and Probates, 1565-1858 contains the Will of Richard Woollridg (sic) of Milton Abbas dated August 6 1712. Richard makes bequests to two nieces and a nephew, and to many of his cousins. However, there is no mention of a wife or children in his Will. This may mean Richard never married. WOLRIDGE, Richard (I4012)

409 Ancestry's Dorset, England, Wills and Probates, 1565-1858 contains the Will of Richard Woolridg (sic) of Milton Abbas dated August 6 1712 which makes a bequest to "Rich: Woolridg his wife and all his children".

Richard Wolridge, son of Philip Wolridge and Celyna Easter, had a wife and several children. The only Richard Wolridge baptizing children (namely Elizabeth, Mary, Lucie, Jane, Henry, and Philip) in Milton Abbas between 1683 and 1699 is the husband of Ann. It is reasonable to conclude Ann is the wife of Richard Wolridge, son of Philip Wolridge and Celyna Easter.

Ancestry's Dorset, Church of England, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 records burials for Ann Woolridge in Milton Abbas on January 10 1736 and on November 15 1745. No other information is recorded for either burial. One of these burials may be for Ann, wife of Richard Wolridge.
UNKNOWN, Ann (I4016)

410 Ancestry's Dorset, England, Wills and Probates, 1565-1858 contains the Will of Richard Woolridge of Milton Abbas dated August 6 1712 which makes many bequests including to "my Cou’'en John Woolridg the sum of ten shillings" and "All the Rest to my Brother James" (who is also named Executor).

James Wolridge is a unique name in Milton Abbas in this time period. So, this 1712 Will is for Richard Wolridge, son of Thomas Wolridge and Margaret Devall.

Ancestry's Dorset, Church of England, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 records baptisms of the following John Wolridge's in Milton Abbas between 1650 and 1712:

1. baptized June 19 1653, son of Thomas and Margaret Wolridge
2. baptized February 13 1666, son of William and Frances Wolridge
3. baptized October 30 1695, son of Philip and Lucie Wolridge

Ancestry's Dorset, England, Wills and Probates, 1565-1858 contains the Will of William Woolridge of Milton Abbas dated November 20 1718 which identifies "my son John" whose baptism is not recorded in the available Milton Abbas Parish records. This John is a son of William and Elizabeth Wolridge, likely born about 1698-1699.

John, baptized June 19 1653, is not "my Cou’'en John Woolridg" in Richard Woolridge's 1712 Will. Instead he is Richard Woolridge's brother as both are sons of Thomas Wolridge and Margaret Devall.

Both John, son of Philip and Lucie Wolridge, and John, son of William and Elizabeth Wolridge, seem unlikely recipients of a bequest from Richard Woolridge's 1712 Will. Both Johns' parents are alive in 1712, and both Johns' have siblings who do not receive a bequest in Richard Woolridge's 1712 Will.

It is more reasonable to conclude the bequest in Richard Woolridge's 1712 Will is for John, baptized February 13 1666, son of William and Frances Wolridge. William Wolridge and Frances (Child) Wolridge died in 1685 and 1690 respectively. As this John is Richard Woolridge's cousin, John's father William and Richard's father Thomas are brothers.
WOLRIDGE, William (I4019)

411 Ancestry's Dorset, England, Wills and Probates, 1565-1858 records the Will of James Woollridge (sic) of Milton Abbas dated February 5 1727 which identifies Ann Woollridge as James' cousin by referring to "my Coson Henery Woollridge and his two sisters Ann and Susanah". This Will also indicates Ann Wolridge died after February 5 1727.

From the wording in James Woollridge's Will, it is not clear if Ann was married or not. But, Ancestry's Dorset, Church of England, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 does not record a marriage for an Ann Wolridge.

Ancestry's Dorset, Church of England, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 records burials for Ann Woolridge in Milton Abbas on January 10 1736 and on November 15 1745. No other information is recorded for either burial. One of these burials may be for Ann, daughter of Philip Wolridge and Celyna Easter.
WOLRIDGE, Ann (I3999)

412 Ancestry's Dorset, England, Wills and Probates, 1565-1858 records the Will of James Woollridge (sic) of Milton Abbas dated February 5 1727 which identifies Henery Woollridge as James' cousin by referring to "my Coson Henery Woollridge and his two sisters Ann and Susanah". This Will also indicates Henry Wolridge died after February 5 1727.

Neither Ancestry's Dorset, Church of England, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 nor Ancestry's England, Select Dorset Church of England Parish Registers, 1538-1999 record the marriage of a Henry Wolridge.

Ancestry's Dorset, Church of England, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 records burials for Henry Woolridge in Milton Abbas on April 12 1740 and on April 21 1758. No other information is recorded for either burial. One of these burials may be for Henry, son of Phillipp Wolridge and Celyna Easter.

It is more likely Henry, son of Phillipp Wolridge and Celyna Easter, died in 1740 at about age 74 than in 1758 at about age 92.

Ancestry's Dorset, England, Wills and Probates, 1565-1858 does not record a Will for a Henry Wolridge.
WOLRIDGE, Henry (I4001)

413 Ancestry's Dorset, England, Wills and Probates, 1565-1858 records the Will of James Woollridge (sic) of Milton Abbas dated February 5 1727 which identifies Susan Woollridge as James' cousin by referring to "my Coson Henery Woollridge and his two sisters Ann and Susanah". This Will also indicates Susan Wolridge died after February 5 1727.

From the wording in James Woollridge's Will, it is not clear if Susan was married or not. Ancestry's Dorset, Church of England, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 does not record a marriage for a Susan Wolridge.

Ancestry's Dorset, Church of England, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 records a burial for Susan Woolridge on October 6 1749 at Milton Abbas (Image 173 of 181). No other information is recorded. This burial may be for Susan, daughter of Phillipp Wolridge and Celyna Easter.
WOLRIDGE, Susan (I4002)

414 Ancestry's England & Wales, Civil Registration Birth Index, 1837-1915 does not record the birth of a Jane McCluskey in Cumberland between 1845 and 1849 (searching for First Name JANE, and Last Name MCCL* and MCL*). There is a Jane McClusky Birth registered in 1848 Q2, but in Manchester, Lancashire.

Jane could not write. She made her mark on her Marriage Registration.

Ancestry's England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index, 1837-1915 records the death of Jane Curran age 32 Carlisle 1880 Q2 Vol. 10b Page 305. Jane Curran's age of 32 is consistent with the approximate year of birth of Jane, daughter of James and Ann McCluskey.

I was unable to find Thomas Curran in the 1881 Census of England or of Scotland (either married to Jane McCluskey, listed as a Widower, or married to Elizabeth Reilly).
MCCLUSKEY, Jane (I1479)

415 Ancestry's England & Wales, Civil Registration Birth Index, 1837-1915 records the birth of Hugh Robert Thompson in Carlisle 1869 Q2 Vol. 10b Page 460. It seems likely this is Hugh Robert Thomson who married Jane McCluskey (despite the slight surname spelling variation), but there is no known record identifying Hugh Robert Thomson's specific place of birth.

Ancestry's Collection for Ohio, Deaths, 1908-1932, 1938-2007 records the death of Hugh Robert Thomson on June 11 1943 in Cleveland. It seems likely this is Hugh Robert Thomson who married Jane McCluskey, but this is an Index and contains no further information to confirm this is Hugh Robert Thomson, husband of Jane McCluskey.

The 1871 Census of Caldewgate, Carlisle records James Thomson age 31 Miller born Scotland, wife Mary Haddow (sic) age 31 born Scotland, and son Hugh R Thomson age 2 born Cumberland Carlisle; residing 136 Denton St. This suggests Hugh Robert Thompson born in Carlisle in Q2 1869 was the son of James and Mary Thomson, and so strengthens him as a candidate for the husband of Jane McCluskey.
THOMSON, Hugh Robert (I2413)

416 Ancestry's England & Wales, Civil Registration Birth Index, 1837-1915 records the births of:

1. Thomas Curran Carlisle 1845 Q2 Vol. XXV Page 69
2. Thomas Curren Carlisle 1845 Q2 Vol. XXV Page 69

These are the only Thomas Curr[a/e]n's born in Cumberland between 1841 and 1848 inclusive based on the index to Ancestry's England & Wales, Civil Registration Birth Index, 1837-1915.

Either this is an erroneous duplication in the Birth Index or an incredible coincidence. It is reasonable to believe Thomas Curran, husband of Jane McCluskey, was born in the second quarter of 1845.
CURRAN, Thomas (I2385)

417 Ancestry's England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index, 1837-1915 records 2 Ann Gardner deaths between 1871 and 1881 in Bedfordshire, both in Luton. They are:

1. Ann Gardner age 81 died 1876 Q1, implying a year of birth about 1794-1795
2. Ann Gardner age 54 died 1873 Q4, implying a year of birth about 1818-1819

The implied year of birth of the first Ann Gardner eliminates her as a candidate to be Ann Pavitt, wife of Robert Gardner. This Ann Gardner is likely the wife of Samuel Gardner, both of whom reside with their son-in-law Charles Punter and their daughter Susan in the 1871 Census of Luton. This Ann Gardner is recorded as age 76 in the 1871 Census.

The second Ann Gardner's implied year of birth is about 1819 which is consistent with Ann Pavitt, wife of Robert Gardner.

Ancestry's 1871 Census of Luton records only one Ann Gardner born 1819 +/- 10 years. This Ann Gardner is age 52 (so born about 1818-1819) Widow Sewer born Tottenham Middlesex. She resides with her children Sophia age 25 Sewer, Ely[sabe]th age 18 Sewer, and Ernest J age 4; all born Luton Beds. This identifies her as the widow of Robert Gardner.

Ancestry's 1881 Census does not record an Ann Gardner born 1819 +/- 10 years in Luton. Also, in the 1881 Census, Elizabeth and Ernest J., children of Robert Gardner and Ann Pavitt, reside with their brother William Gardner.

So, it seems reasonable to believe Ann Gardner age 54 who died in 1873 in Luton is Ann Pavitt, wife of Robert Gardner.
PAVITT, Ann (I2422)

418 Ancestry's England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index, 1837-1915 records 2 William Wilson's whose death was registered in Rochdale between 1891 and 1901:

1. William Wilson age 72 1894 Q4 Rochdale Vol. 8e Page 13, implying a year of birth about 1822
2. William Wilson age 63 1897 Q3 Rochdale Vol. 8e Page 5, implying a year of birth about 1834

William Wilson's ages varied over the Censuses: age 29 in 1861, age 37 in 1871, age 45 in 1881, and age 56 in 1891; indicating he was likely born between 1831 and 1835. So, the William Wilson age 63 who died in 1897 is a more likely candidate. But, there are many William Wilson deaths in other areas of Lancashire.
WILSON, William (I3681)

419 Ancestry's England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index, 1837-1915 records one Catherine McBride Death Registration in Carlisle between 1871 and 1881; namely Catherine McBride age 27 1871 Q2 Carlisle Vol. 10b Page 316. This Catherine McBride's implied year of birth about 1843 is consistent with the year of birth for Catherine McBride, daughter of Robert McBride and Sarah Ewing.

Ancestry's 1871 Census of England does not record a Catherine McBride born 1844 +/- 5 years in Cumberland who is Single.
MCBRIDE, Catharine (I1984)

420 Ancestry's England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index, 1837-1915 records one Phoebe (or variant spelling) Spacey Death Registration in Bedfordshire between 1861 and 1871; namely Phoebe Spacey Luton 1865 Q1 Vol. 3b Page 329. Unfortunately, there is no age at death recorded in the Index for deaths in 1865.

Ancestry's 1871 Census of England does not record a Phoebe Spacey born 1800 +/- 10 years in Bedfordshire England, or a Thomas Spacey born 1800 +/- 10 years in Hertford England.
GARDNER, Phoebe Ann (I2507)

421 Ancestry's England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index, 1837-1915 records only one Death Registration for a Frances or Francis McBride between 1901 Q1 and 1911 Q2 in Cumberland. This Death Registration is for Frances McBride age 72 1902 Q4 Carlisle Vol. 10b Page 353.

Unfortunately, Frances Foster, wife of Isaac McBride, provided inconsistent ages in different Censuses, i.e. age 43 in 1881, age 48 in 1891, and age 70 in 1901. The age of 70 for Frances (Foster) McBride in the 1901 Census is consistent with the Death Registration for Frances McBride age 72 Carlisle 1902 Q4.
FOSTER, Frances (I2123)

422 Ancestry's England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index, 1837-1915 records the death of 3 Ann Vickers in Cumberland whose ages at death are consistent with the birth of Annie born 1867, daughter of Hugh McCluskey and Mary McBride.

It seems more likely the Ann Vickers death registered in Carlisle is Annie born 1867, daughter of Hugh McCluskey and Mary McBride. William Vickers and Annie McCluskey reside in Carlisle at least until the 1911 Census.
MCCLUSKEY, Annie (I1370)

423 Ancestry's England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index, 1837-1915 records the death of Daniel McBride 1849 Q2 Newcastle T Vol. 25 Page 283. This is likely the death of Daniel McBride, husband of Jane McHenry. MCBRIDE, Daniel (I5268)

424 Ancestry's England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index, 1837-1915 records the death of Hugh McCluskey age 24 Carlisle 1898 Q1 Vol. 10b Page 337. Hugh McCluskey's age of 24 in 1898 is consistent with the year of birth of Hugh, son of Hugh and Mary McCluskey. MCCLUSKEY, Hugh (I1374)

425 Ancestry's England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index, 1837-1915 records the death of Jane McBride age 47 in October - December 1878 in Salford District (Vol. 8d Page 19). She is the only Jane McBride (or MacBride) Death recorded in Lancashire between 1870 and 1880 who was born in 1830 +/- 5 years. It is reasonable to believe she is Jane Taylor, wife of Robert McBride. TAYLOR, Jane (I2445)

426 Ancestry's England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index, 1837-1915 records the death of Jane Thomson age 21 Carlisle 1890 Q3 Vol. 10b Page 319. The age at death for this Jane Thomson is consistent with Jane McCluskey’'’s birth in January 1869.

There is a Hugh R Thomson in the 1900 Census of Cleveland: Hugh R Thomson born Feb 1869 England Married 8 years Immigrated to U.S. in 1891 Naturalized Occupation Machinist with wife Jane born Mar 1873 in Ohio, and sons James age 5 and David age 2, both born in Ohio.

The Marriage Registration for Hugh Robert Thomson and Jane McCluskey in October 1889 records Hugh's age as 21 years (implying a year of birth about 1868) and his Profession as Engine Fitter. In the 19th Century, Fitter was a common term for a person who assembled several portions of machinery together.

The year and country of birth and the profession of Hugh R Thomson in the 1900 Census of Cleveland are consistent with those of Hugh Robert Thomson, husband of Jane McCluskey.

Since Hugh R Thomson in the 1900 Census of Cleveland has only been married 8 years in his current marriage and his wife Jane was born in Ohio, this Jane Thomson in the 1900 Census of Cleveland is not Jane McCluskey.

There is a Hugh R Thomson in the 1910 Census of Cleveland; Hugh R Thomson age 41 born in England Immigrated to U.S. in 1891 Naturalized Occupation Master Mechanic, with wife Ada, and sons James age 15, David age 12, and Robert age 8. Hugh R and Ada have been married for 3 years. Hugh R Thomson's age and implied year of birth, country of birth, immigration, and occupation; and his sons James and David confirm this is the same Hugh R Thomson as in the 1900 Census of Cleveland. Presumably, Hugh Robert’'s wife Jane recorded in the 1900 Census of Cleveland died and Hugh Robert re-married Ada.

According to the 1910 Census of Cleveland, Hugh R Thomson married 3 times. This is consistent with this Hugh R Thomson being married to Jane McCluskey, Jane from Ohio (as recorded in 1900 Census), and Ada from Ohio (as recorded in 1910 Census).

Ancestry’s Collection for Cuyahoga County, Ohio, Marriage Records and Indexes, 1810-1973 records the following marriages for Hugh Robert Thomson:

1. to Jane W. Forrest on October 19 1891
2. to Ada Harwood on November 6 1901

These marriages are consistent with the information recorded for Hugh R Thomson in the 1900 and 1910 Censuses of Cleveland.

The Marriage Record for Hugh Robert Thomson’'’s marriage to Ada Harwood records his parents as James Thomson and Mary Greenfield. Hugh Robert Thomson’'’s marriage to Jane McCluskey records his father as James Thomson.

The Marriage Record for Hugh Robert Thomson’'s marriage to Ada Harwood records he was previously been married twice. This is consistent with this Hugh R Thomson being married previously to Jane McCluskey and to Jane Forrest (as recorded in 1900 Census).

Thus, it is reasonable to conclude Hugh R Thomson recorded in the 1900 and 1910 Censuses of Cleveland is Hugh Robert Thomson who married Jane McCluskey.

Thus, it is reasonable to conclude Jane (McCluskey) Thomson died between her marriage in 1889 and Hugh Robert Thomson’'s marriage to Jane Forrest in 1891. Thus, the Death Registration for Jane Thomson age 21 Carlisle 1890 Q3 Vol. 10b Page 319 is very likely for Jane McCluskey, first wife of Hugh Robert Thomson.
MCCLUSKEY, Jane (I1371)

427 Ancestry's England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index, 1916-2007 records the death of Sarah McCluskey age 53 Carlisle 1919 Q1 Vol. 10b Page 1083. Sarah McCluskey's age of 53 implies a year of birth about 1865 which is consistent with Sarah, daughter of Hugh McCluskey and Mary McBride.

In the 1911 Census, Sarah McCluskey age 46 Single Domestic Servant is a Visitor at the residence of her sister Ann (McCluskey) Vickers and Ann's husband William Vickers. This indicates Sarah McCluskey was unmarried at the time of the 1911 Census and died after the 1911 Census.
MCCLUSKEY, Sarah (I1369)

428 Ancestry's England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index, 1916-2007 records the death of William Vickers age 77 Carlisle 1939 Q4 Vol. 10b Page 1166. William Vickers' age of 77 is consistent with William Vickers, husband of Annie McCluskey, who was born about 1863.

Ancestry's England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index, 1916-2007 records the death of William Vickers age 77 Cockermouth 1940 Q2 Vol. 10b Page 1372. William Vickers' age of 77 is consistent with William Vickers, husband of Annie McCluskey, who was born about 1863.

These are the only 2 William Vickers Death Registrations in Cumberland between 1916 and 2007 with a William Vickers born in 1863 +/- 5 years.
VICKERS, William (I2417)

429 Ancestry's England & Wales, Civil Registration Index, 1837-1915 records the death of Edmund Dalton age 62 in 1866 Q4 Tynemouth Vol. 10b Page 156. His implied year of birth about 1804 and place of death are consistent with Edmund Dalton, husband of Elizabeth Garrard.

Ancestry's England & Wales, National Probate Calendar (Index of Wills and Administrations), 1858-1966 contains no entry for an Edmund Dalton who died about 1866.
DALTON, Edmund (I2355)

430 Ancestry's England & Wales, Civil Registration Marriage Index, 1837-1915 has no record of Isaac McBride's first marriage to Elizabeth to confirm her maiden surname and father.

The 1871 Census of Carlisle records Isic (sic) MacBride (sic) age 30, his wife Elizabeth age 31, and children William age 12, Sarah age 6, and Mary Ann age 7 months; all born Carlisle and residing Chapel Lane, Caldewgate, Saint Mary.

Isaac McBride, son of Robert and Sarah McBride, is recorded in the 1861 Census of Carlisle as Unmarried. There is no William McBride age 2 residing with Isaac McBride in the 1861 Census. Whose child is William age 12 in the 1871 Census?

The Birth Registration for Sarah Catherine, daughter of Isaac and Elizabeth McBride, born April 15 1865 records Elizabeth's maiden surname as Aiken.

The 1861 Census of Carlisle records Elizabeth Atkin Boarder Unmarried age 24 and William Atkin age 1, both born Carlisle and residing on Queen St, Caldewgate, Saint Mary. This is the only Elizabeth Aiken/Atkin Ancestry recorded in the 1861 Census residing in Carlisle.

Ancestry's England & Wales, Civil Registration Birth Index, 1837-1915 records the Birth Registration for William Atkin 1859 Q4 in Carlisle (Vol. 10b Page 379). This is the only Birth Registration recorded for a William Atkin, Atkins, or Aiken in Carlisle between 1857 and 1861.

FamilySearch's Collection for England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975 does not record a baptism for either a William Aiken or a William Atkin between 1858 and 1865.

It is reasonable to conclude the maiden surname for Elizabeth, first wife of Isaac McBride, is Atkin rather than Aiken, despite the Birth Registration for Sarah Catherine.

FamilySearch's Collection for England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975 records the baptism of Elizabeth, daughter of Thomas and Jane Atkin, on July 26 1835 at Saint Mary, Carlisle. This may be the baptism of Elizabeth, first wife of Isaac McBride. In the 1861 Census, Elizabeth Atkin gives her age as 24 and her place of birth as Carlisle.
ATKIN, Elizabeth (I2185)

431 Ancestry's England & Wales, FreeBMD Death Index, 1837-1915 records the Death Registration for James Dinwoodie age 68 (so, born about 1815-1816) registered April-June 1884 in Carlisle Vol. 10b Page 292.

There is no James Dinwoodie recorded in Ancestry's 1891 Census of Carlisle. Likely, this is the Death Registration for James Dinwoodie, second husband of Isabella Smith.
DINWOODIE, James (I2398)

The combination of forenames Mary Ann and the presence of a niece surnamed Plowman support the conclusion this Probate is for James Legg, husband of Mary Ann Plowman.
LEGG, James (I5131)

Thus, John Gardner whose Will was probated on March 27, 1893 is the son of William Gardner and Elizabeth Smith.
GARDNER, John (I2135)

It is reasonable to conclude Sarah Gardner whose Will was proved on March 19, 1879 is Sarah Ellerd, husband of Joseph Gardner.

441 Ancestry's England and Wales, Civil Registration Death Index, 1837-1915 records the death of Peter Curran age 1 Carlisle 1871 Q4 Vol. 10b Page 332. This may be Peter, son of Thomas Curran and Jane McCluskey. CURRAN, Peter (I2387)

443 Ancestry's Lancashire, England, Deaths and Burials, 1813-1986 contains the burial of Thomas Weaver on June 19 1830 at St. John's Church of England, Preston, Lancashire. Thomas Weaver's age is given as 26 implying a year of birth about 1803 to 1804, and his residence as Tithe Barn St. No profession or other information is recorded. This may be the burial of the first husband of Catherine King. WEAVER, Thomas (I2370)

444 Ancestry's London, England, Church of England Marriages and Banns, 1754-1932 records the marriage of Aaron Lawrance Bachelor of this Parish and Sarah Pavitt Spinster of this Parish on February 12 1827 in St Marylebone, Westminster. The witnesses are Thomas Parsons and Henriett (?) Parsons. Aaron Lawrance, Sarah Pavitt, and the witnesses sign their names.

Ancestry's 1841 Census of Finchley, Middlesex records Aaron Laurence age 35 Tailor Not Born in County, Sarah age 35 Not Born in County, Joseph age 13 Born in County, William age 11 Born in County, Edward age 8 Born in County, Sarah age 6 Born in County, Aaron age 4 Born in County, and Alberta age 4 months Born in County; residing East End, Finchley (District 2 Page 4). The oldest child Joseph is born about 1727-1728, consistent with the marriage of Aaron Lawrance and Sarah Pavitt in February 1827.

Ancestry's 1851 Census of Finchley, Middlesex records Sarah Lawrance age 43 Widow born Herts Caldecott and children Joseph age 23 Tailor born Middlesex Marylebone, William age 21 born St Pancras, Albert age 10 born Middlesex Finchley, and Emily age 3 born Middlesex Finchley; residing Hog Market, Finchley (District 2e Page 34). The names and ages of Sarah and her children confirm this is the family of Aaron Lawrance and Sarah Pavitt.

The 1851 Census of Finchley records Sarah Lawrance's place of birth as Caldecott (typically spelled Caldecote). But there is no record of a Pavitt family in Caldecote around the date of birth of Sarah Pavitt, wife of Aaron Lawrence.

The Hertfordshire Names Online website records no marriage or will for a Pavitt, Pavit, Pavett, or Pavet in Caldecote between 1780 and 1820. FamilySearch's England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975; England Marriages, 1538-1973; and England Deaths and Burials, 1538-1991 do not record the baptism, marriage, or death of a Pavitt or variant spelling in Caldecote between 1780 and 1820.

Could the place of birth for Sarah Pavitt, wife of Aaron Lawrence, be Codicote instead of Caldecote?

The 1841 Census of Finchley District 2 records Sarah Pavitt and Aaron Lawrence on Page 4, George Pavitt and Mary Hurst on Page 12, and Hannah Pavitt and Mark Plowman on Page 23; all residing East End, Finchley. George Pavitt and Hannah Pavitt are children of James Pavitt and Bett Lawrence. Is it more than a coincidence Sarah Pavitt and Aaron Lawrence reside so close to two children of James Pavitt and Bett Lawrence?

Thomas Parsons is a witness at the marriage of Sarah Pavitt and Aaron Lawrence. Mary Pavitt, daughter of James Pavitt and Bett Lawrence, marries a Thomas Parsons in 1809.

These possible connections between Sarah Pavitt and several children of James Pavitt and Bett Lawrence and the lack of evidence of Pavitt's in Caldecote make it reasonable to believe Sarah Pavitt is the daughter of James Pavitt and Bett Lawrence, and born in Codicote instead of Caldecote.

It is preferable to have additional direct evidence Sarah, daughter of James Pavitt and Bett Lawrence, is Sarah Pavitt, wife of Aaron Lawrence.

Ancestry's London, England, Church of England Marriages and Banns, 1754-1932 records the marriage of Sarah Lawance age 25 Spinster, daughter of Aaron Lawrance (Tailor) and William Brown age 20 Bachelor Confectioner, son of William Brown (Baker), on April 30 1860 at St. Jude, Southwark (1851-1910 Image 32 of 378).

Ancestry's 1861 Census of St. Giles, Lambeth, Surrey records William Brown age 25 Confectioner born Surrey Christ Church, wife Sarah Brown age 24 born Middlesex Finchley, and mother-in-law Sarah Lawrence age 50 Widow Monthly Nurse born Hertfordshire; residing 1 Brook's Place (Camberwell District 8 Page 36 No. 206). Sarah Pavitt, wife of Aaron Lawrence, died after this Census.
PAVITT, Sarah (I5806)

445 Ancestry's Louisiana Marriages to 1850 records two marriages for a Françoise Blanchard, both to Enselme Landry - one on February 14 1784 in Ascension and the other on May 4 1787 in Ascension. As Ancestry's Louisiana Marriages to 1850 is only an index, no further information is provided.

American State Papers - Documents, Legislative and Executive of the Congress of the United States, From the Second Session of the Eleventh to the Third Session of the Thirteenth Congress, Inclusive: Commencing November 27 1809 and Ending March 3, 1813 (Washington: Published by Gales and Seaton 1834) contains a report of Land Claims in the Eastern District of the Orleans Territory from the Treasury Department dated January 8, 1812.

The Treasury Department's report of Land Claims includes the following Claim (Page 265 No. 76):

Francoise Blanchard, widow of Anselme Landry, claims a tract of land, situate on the east side of the river Mississippi, in the county of Acadia, containing six arpents six toises and two feet in front, and forty arpents in depth, and bounded on the upper side by land of Carlos Babin, and on the lower by land of Aman Babin.

This land was surveyed by Don Louis Andry, in the year 1773, in favour of Estevan Landry, who obtained a complete grant for the same in 1775, from Governor Unzaga; the claimant holds under said grant, by virtue of regular transfers. Confirmed.

446 Ancestry's Massachusetts Death Index, 1901-1980 records the index entry for Victoria Boudro (maiden surname Burke) in the Town of Wellfleet Year 1920 Vol. 105 Page 181. As Pierre Boudrot, Victoire Bourque's second husband, resided in Wellfleet at the time of their marriage, this Death Index may be for Victoire (Bourque) Boudrot.

The 1900 Census of Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Massachusetts records Joseph Frazier age 32 Boatman born Aug 1867 Canada, wife Paulina Frazier age 30 born Nov 1869 Canada, 6 children all born Massachusetts, and mother in law Victoria Boudro (sic) age 60 Widow born Feb 1840 Canada. Joseph and Pauline Frazier have been married 9 years.

Victoria Boudrot and her first husband Joseph LeBlanc had a daughter Appoline Anne born November 10 1869 in River Bourgeois.

Ancestry's Massachusetts, Marriage Records, 1840-1915 records the marriage of Joseph F Frazier age 24 Mariner born Harbor au Boucher residing Wellfleet, son of Felix Frazier and Mary, and Pauline N White age 22 Domestic born Cape Breton residing Wellfleet, daughter of Joseph White and Victoria, on June 8 1891 in Wellfleet.

It is reasonable to conclude Pauline Frazier is Appoline Anne as Pauline Frazier's year, month, and place of birth in the 1900 Census are consistent with Appoline Anne; and Pauline (White) Frazier is the daughter of Joseph White (sic for LeBlanc) and Victoria.

The 1910 Census of Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Massachusetts records Victoria Brodro (sic) Mother-in-Law Widow age 74 born Canada residing with Paulina Frazier. Victoria Brodro's age 74 implies a year of birth about 1845 to 1846 which is close to the date of birth of Victoria Boudrot, wife of Joseph LeBlanc and Pierre Boudrot.

The 1920 Census of Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Massachusetts records Victoria Budro (sic) Grandmother Widow age 79 born Nova Scotia and Pauline Frazier Mother age 50 born Nova Scotia. Both Victoire Bourque and her daughter Appoline Anne LeBlanc were born in River Bourgeois. This Census entry establishes that Victoria Boudrot was alive at the time of the 1920 Census on January 1 1920, and living in Wellfleet.

It is reasonable to conclude Victoria Bourque, wife of Joseph LeBlanc and Pierre Boudrot, died in 1920 in Wellfleet.
BOURQUE, Victoire (I870)

447 Ancestry's Massachusetts, Death Index, 1901-1980 records the death of Peter Murphy Town Fitchburg Year 1933 Vol. 41 Page 149. This Peter Murphy is a candidate to be Peter Murphy, husband of Mary Ann McCluskey. Unfortunately, no age at death or other information is recorded in the Massachusetts, Death Index, 1901-1980 to confirm this is Peter Murphy, husband of Mary Ann McCluskey.

The 1940 Census of Fitchburg, Worcester, Massachusetts records Peter Murphy age 58 and his sister Jessie Murphy age 59. Their father Peter does not reside with them, suggesting he may have died prior to the 1940 Census.

448 Ancestry's New York, Passenger Lists, 1820-1957 records Irene King age 32 occupation Domestic born and previously residing in Little Catalina Newfoundland. Her entry is dated March 22, 1929. She sailed on the S.S. Rosalind from St. John's. Based on her age and place of birth, this is Irene King, daughter of Arthur William King and Henrietta Goodyear.

Ancestry's New York, New York, Marriage License Indexes, 1907-2018 records the marriage licence (no. 21121) for Patrick Martin and Irene King on November 23 1938. Patrick Martin is a candidate to be the husband of Irene King, daughter of Arthur William King and Henrietta Goodyear (although Irene (King) Vardy identified Irene King's husband as Jack Martin).

449 Ancestry's Quebec, Canada, Vital and Church Records (Drouin Collection), 1621-1968 records the burial of Marguerite Samson "agee de soixante et quatorze an" "est decedee" October 26 1754 at Hôpital Général de Québec. (1728-1783 Image 30 of 167). No spouse or parents are recorded. Marguerite Samson's age of 74 implies a year of birth about 1679-1680.

The 1681 Census of Québec records three Samson families:

1. Jacques Samson and Marie Metru in Lauzon who have a daughter Marguerite age 2.
2. Gabriel Samson and Françoise Durand in Lauzon who have a daughter Marguerite age 2.
3. Louis Samson and Marthe Ragot in Cote St-Michel who do not have a daughter Marguerite. Their only daughter is Marie age 12 (Library and Archives Canada Microfilm C2474 Image 824 of 882 Transcript). The Dictionnaire Généalogique des Familles Canadiennes does not record a daughter Marguerite for this family.

Marguerite, daughter of Jacques Samson and Marie Anne Metru, died July 29 1741 in Lauzon based on her burial at St. Joseph de la Pointe de Lévis Parish, Lauzon. This burial identifies Marguerite Samson as age 67 and the wife of Michel Lemieux.

It is reasonable to conclude the death of Marguerite Samson age 74 on October 26 1754 at Hôpital Général de Québec is for the daughter of Gabriel Samson and Françoise Durand.
SAMSON, Marguerite Louise (I226)

It is reasonable to conclude this is Ann Pavitt, widow of Matthew Palmer, residing with her daughter Mary Palmer, wife of Samuel Spencer, in Farnham.

Ancestry’s 1851 Census of Stanstead, Hertford, England records Samuel Spencer age 70 Farmer born Essex Hadstock, wife Mary Spencer age 68 born Essex Farnham, visitor Elizabeth Barker age 70 (?) Annuitant born Essex Farnham, servant Mary Palmer age 19 born Essex Elsenham, and servant Maria Glassbrook age 76 born Herts Westmill; residing Alsa St., Stanstead.
