- In a conversation on May 6 2011, Jean Crocker, wife of Gerald Warren, said it is possible the maiden surname of Joseph Warren's wife Sarah was Piercey, but she was not certain. So, it seems the oral family history from Bill Gardner indicating Joseph Warren's wife was Sarah Sinyard is more likely.
Which adult male Sinyard's in Heart's Content are candidates to be the father of Sarah Sinyard born July 1853?
The Rooms Provincial Archives has a collection of Newfoundland Voters Lists. Images of some of these Voters Lists are available at the Family History Society of Newfoundland and Labrador (FHSNL). These Voters Lists include the 1852 and 1855 Voters Lists for Heart's Content (GN 43/7 Box 64 - Trinity Bay - 1846, 1847, 1848, 1849, 1852, 1855). Both the 1852 (Image 227 of 272) and 1855 (Image 267 of 272) Voters Lists record the following Sinyard's in Heart's Content: James, Jacob, Richard, and Solomon. All are candidates to be the father of Sarah Sinyard born July 1853.
These Voters Lists also include the 1889 Voters List for Heart's Content (GN 43/7 Box 13 Hearts Content, Trinity Bay - 1889) which records the voter's age, occupation, place of birth, and father. All Sinyard's in this Heart's Content Voters List were born in Heart's Content and are Fishermen.
There are the following candidates old enough to be the father of Sarah Sinyard born July 1853.
1. Thomas Sinyard: Thomas age 66 son of James Sinyard. Thomas was born about 1823, and has son Jacob age 27 (born about 1862). He is likely Thomas Sinyard age 81 died November 14 1901 and buried November 17 at Heart's Content Church of England.
It is likely Thomas Sinyard age 66 is the son of James Sinyard recorded in the 1852 and 1855 Heart's Content Voters Lists. Thomas Sinyard is not in these Voters Lists, although he was older than 21.
2. Richard Sinyard: Only Richard's sons are in the Voters List; namely Jonathan age 52 (born about 1837), Jacob age 47 (born about 1842), and Richard age 39 (born about 1850).
It is likely Richard Sinyard; father of Jonathan age 52, Jacob age 47, and Richard age 39; is Richard Sinyard recorded in the 1852 and 1855 Heart's Content Voters Lists.
Based on Heart's Content Church of England marriages after 1878 of Sinyard's who could be Sarah's siblings, there are the following candidates to be the father of Sarah Sinyard born in July 1853.
1. Solomon: Emma Sinyard, age 22 daughter of Solomon, married Thomas Rowe May 19 1879. Emma was born about 1856-1857. This Solomon may be Solomon Sinyard in the 1852 and 1855 Heart's Content Voters Lists.
2. Thomas: Jacob, age 25 son of Thomas, married Selina Rockwood December 4 1884. Jacob was born about 1859. This may be Jacob, son of Thomas, from the 1889 Voters List for Heart's Content, although there is 3 years difference in their approximate years of birth.
3. Jonathan: Joseph, age 23 son of Jonathan, married Dorcas Hopkins March 15 1888. Joseph was born about 1864-1865. William James, age 25 son of Jonathan, married Martha Smith December 29 1900. William James was born about 1875. Bennett, age 27 daughter of Jonathan, married Gilbert Murphy January 25 1904. Bennett was born about 1876. It seems unlikely William James and Bennett are Sarah's siblings as Sarah was born about 23-24 years earlier than William James and Bennett. But, it is possible.
4. Abel: William, age 26 son of Abel, married Mary Rockwood December 17 1891. William was born about 1865.
5. Jacob: Jonathan, age 27 son of Jacob, married Mary Louisa Legg May 6 1902. Jonathan was born about 1874-1875. Annie, age 22 daughter of Jacob, married Alison Sooley November 30 1911. Annie was born about 1889. It seems unlikely Jonathan is Sarah's brother as they were born about 22-23 years apart. It is not possible for Annie to be Sarah's sister as they were born about 37 years apart.
Gertrude Crosbie’s Births, Deaths and Marriages in Newfoundland Newspapers 1810-1890 records the marriage of Thomas Sinyard and Frances Combey on January 1 1853 at Heart's Content. No other information is recorded. This may be Thomas Sinyard age 66 son of James Sinyard in the 1889 Voters List for Heart's Content. This marriage occurs 7 months before the birth of Sarah Sinyard, wife of Joseph Warren.
This is the only event recorded in Gertrude Crosbie’s Births, Deaths and Marriages in Newfoundland Newspapers 1810-1890 for a Sinyard (or Synyard) in Heart's Content.
There are many candidates for Sarah's father, and insufficient information currently available to eliminate candidates.
