- The 1752 Census of Île Royale in Port Toulouse records Joseph Fougere age 36 Coaster native of Port Royal, wife Marguerite Coste age 32 native of Port Toulouse, Modeste Fougere age 4, and Marie Madelene age 12 Domestic native of la Cadie; 28 years in the colony.
This implies Marguerite Coste was born about 1719.
But the Dictionnaire Genealogique Des Familles Acadiennes 1636-1714 records:
1. Marguerite Coste's parents Jacques (dit Jacob) Coste and Françoise Petitpas marrying about 1727 in Port Toulouse (Page 418)
2. Marguerite Coste's mother Françoise Petitpas born about 1706 (Page 1297)
Furthermore, Joseph Fougère and Marguerite Coste had 4 children (Charles, Agathe, Marcel, and Thérèse) born between November 1760 and October 1768. With a year of birth about 1719, Marguerite Coste had 4 children in her 40's with the last born when she was about 49.
Marguerite Coste's approximate year of birth about 1719 based on the 1752 Census does not seem reasonable.
Also, the Dictionnaire Genealogique Des Familles Acadiennes 1636-1714 records Joseph Fougère's date of birth as April 25 1720 (Page 642). So, Joseph Fougère was 31 at the time of the 1752 Census of Port Toulouse, and not 36 as recorded in this Census.
As Joseph Fougère and Marguerite Coste's first known child Modeste was born about 1747, it is reasonable to believe Marguerite Coste was born shortly after the marriage of her parents Jacques dit Jacob Coste and Françoise Petitpas about 1727.
